It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ahmed Shamia<\/strong>, Palestinian architect and artist, laureate of the PAUSE programme. Ahmed succumbed to his injuries this Tuesday, May 13th, after being critically wounded in an Israeli strike on Gaza the previous week. He was 42 years old.<\/p>\n In a territory where, according to the United Nations, two-thirds of residential buildings have been destroyed or severely damaged, Ahmed described himself as an %22architect in a country where architecture no longer exists.<\/em>%22 He dreamed of building sustainable, supportive, and resilient cities, where each building would be a response to ecological and human emergencies. Il avait 42 ans.<\/p>\n Dans un territoire o\u00f9, selon les Nations Unies, deux tiers des b\u00e2timents r\u00e9sidentiels ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9truits ou gravement endommag\u00e9s, Ahmed se disait \u00ab architecte dans un pays o\u00f9 l\u2019architecture n\u2019est plus \u00bb<\/em>. As a reminder, in December 2023, in response to the escalation of violence in Gaza, and in collaboration with the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General of France in Jerusalem, the PAUSE programme was able to put in place emergency procedures to respond to this tragedy.<\/p>\n Currently, twelve researchers and artists from Gaza, expected by the PAUSE programme, are still trapped in the enclave with their families, under the threat of bombing and famine.<\/strong><\/p>\n To his family, his loved ones, and all those who uphold the ideas he defended, we extend our deepest condolences.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Saving a life, saving ideas. Pour rappel, d\u00e8s le mois de d\u00e9cembre 2023, face \u00e0 l’escalade de la violence \u00e0 Gaza, et en collaboration avec le minist\u00e8re de l\u2019Europe et des Affaires \u00e9trang\u00e8res et le Consulat g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de France \u00e0 J\u00e9rusalem, le programme PAUSE a pu mettre en place des proc\u00e9dures d\u2019urgence pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 cette trag\u00e9die.<\/p>\n Actuellement, douze chercheurs et artistes de Gaza, attendus par le programme PAUSE, sont toujours bloqu\u00e9s dans l\u2019enclave avec leurs familles, sous la menace des bombardements et de la famine.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00c0 sa famille, \u00e0 ses proches, et \u00e0 toutes celles et ceux qui portent les id\u00e9es qu\u2019il d\u00e9fendait, nous adressons nos pens\u00e9es les plus \u00e9mues.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sauver une vie, sauver des id\u00e9es.
