This photographic and interview work is co-directed by Berlin-based photographer <strong>Pierre-J\u00e9r\u00f4me Adjedj<\/strong> and <strong>Pascale Laborier<\/strong>, professor of political science at the Universit\u00e9 Paris-Nanterre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span style=%22color: #333399;%22>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=%22text-align: justify;%22><span style=%22color: #333399;%22>Since December 2018, they have been meeting with researchers in situations of forced exile to testify about their singular experience. They contribute through images and words to make them visible and bear witness to what they have lost: objects, places, a home, friends, colleagues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8221; border_color_top=&#8221;#e5e5e5&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>RESTRICA (Regards sur les exils scientifiques contraints d\u2019hier et d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui)<\/strong> est un projet de portraits photographiques men\u00e9 en collaboration avec le programme PAUSE. Ce travail photographique et d\u2019entretiens est cor\u00e9alis\u00e9 par le photographe berlinois <strong>Pierre-J\u00e9r\u00f4me Adjedj<\/strong> et <strong>Pascale Laborier<\/strong>, professeure de science politique \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Paris-Nanterre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Depuis d\u00e9cembre 2018, ces derniers rencontrent des <strong>chercheurs et chercheuses en situation d\u2019exil contraint<\/strong> pour t\u00e9moigner de leur exp\u00e9rience singuli\u00e8re. The answer was only conceivable in dialogue and co-construction, requiring the elaboration of an ad hoc creation process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=%22color: #333399;%22>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=%22text-align: justify;%22><span style=%22color: #333399;%22>From this preliminary reflection came a process allowing the juxtaposition of elements (objects and photos) to the face that restore the history of the person photographed. These photos representing the country of origin and the host country and these objects, personal or related to the field of research, are placed together in the device and superimposed at the time of the shooting (i.e. without any subsequent photomontage).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=%22color: #333399;%22>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=%22text-align: justify;%22><span style=%22color: #333399;%22>Each time the camera is triggered, an attempt is made to create a palimpsest through transparencies, where the different layers respond to each other in a way that goes beyond what the photographer and the subject had envisaged. The process was repeated until each person had %22the best of the imperfect photos%22, like an eternally provisional result.%22<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=%22color: #333399;%22><strong><em>Pierre-J\u00e9r\u00f4me Adjedj et Pascale Laborier<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8221; border_color_top=&#8221;#e5e5e5&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">D\u00e9marche artistique<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Qu\u2019est-ce qu\u2019un portrait qui chercherait \u00e0 signifier l\u2019exil, dont l\u2019ambition serait de d\u00e9passer le constat ?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">\u00ab Nous sommes partis de cette question simple, qui n\u2019admettait de r\u00e9ponse ni simple ni unique. La r\u00e9ponse n\u2019\u00e9tait pensable que dans le dialogue et la co-construction, n\u00e9cessitait l\u2019\u00e9laboration d\u2019un processus de cr\u00e9ation ad hoc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">De cette r\u00e9flexion pr\u00e9alable est sorti un proc\u00e9d\u00e9 permettant de juxtaposer au visage des \u00e9l\u00e9ments (objets et photos) qui restituent l\u2019histoire de la personne photographi\u00e9e. Ces photos repr\u00e9sentant le pays d\u2019origine et le pays d\u2019accueil et ces objets, personnels ou relatifs au domaine de recherche, sont mis en place ensemble dans le dispositif et superpos\u00e9s \u00e0 la prise de vue (c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire sans photomontage post\u00e9rieur).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">\u00c0 chaque d\u00e9clenchement de l\u2019appareil correspond une tentative de cr\u00e9er par transparences un palimpseste o\u00f9 les diff\u00e9rentes couches se r\u00e9pondent d\u2019une fa\u00e7on d\u00e9passant ce que le photographe et le sujet avaient envisag\u00e9. That evening, <strong>Pascale Laborier<\/strong>&#8216;s documentary <strong>%22\u00c0 bas les grillages%22 (2020)<\/strong>, directed with the participation of <strong>Pierre-J\u00e9r\u00f4me Adjedj<\/strong> and <strong>B\u00e9atrice Hibou<\/strong>, was screened in front of the Paris office, as part of the #chezmaddalena project, in tribute to Fariba and other victims of dictatorial regimes. <strong>#chezmaddalena<\/strong> is a spontaneous initiative of wall projections made from the home of the artist <a href=%22https:\/\/www.romina-denovellis.com\/%22 data-et-target-link=%22_blank%22 rel=%22noopener%22 style=%22color: #333399;%22><span style=%22color: #993300;%22>Romina De Novellis<\/span><\/a> during the confinement related to the pandemic of covid-19 in France.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=%22color: #333399;%22>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=%22text-align: justify;%22><span style=%22color: #333399;%22>%22\u00c0 bas les grillages%22 deals with exile, confinement, migrants, researchers in danger, a long sequence is dedicated to Fariba Adelkhah.
